Hey all,

Just a little recipie for all of you today.

Van-Van oil is traditionally used to “feed” a charm or amulet used for luck or prosperity. I have also noticed that it not only empowers amulets, but it a good general “good luck” oil, as well as a good general prosperity oil.

Now, when I first was learning Hoodoo, I was taught that Van-Van was basically JUST lemongrass essential oil with some pyrite in the jar. 😉 I have since found that recipie to be a bit…lacking, so here is my personal recipie for Van-Van.

You will need:
1/2 oz bottle essential oil of lemongrass (THIS MUST BE ESSENTIAL OIL,) with about one eyedropper’s worth taken out.
Small grains of pyrite (fools gold,)
Lemongrass leaves,
Solomon’s Seal root.

To make it:
Place about a pinch of lemongrass, a pinch (a pinch being a teeny amount) of solomon’s seal root, and a few grains of pyrite into your essential oil of lemongrass. Seal the bottle, and hold the jar in your hands for a few moments, envisioning golden energy surging from you into the oil. The oil SHOULD BE ready for immediate use, however, I personally like to allow it to sit for about 2 weeks in a cool, dark place (which allows the herbal and mineral vibrations to enter the oil,) shaking the bottle every few days prior to using my ritual oil.

Enjoy!

Hi, I’ve been enjoying your blog for the past couple of hours here, and I have a question about this. Possibly a stupid one, but, nonetheless…What should a magickal practitioner who has developed a severe allergy to lemongrass (I mean, I can’t even stand in front of a Thai food restaurant while they’re cooking it without having an asthma attack) use instead? Am I just SOL when spells call for lemongrass or Van Van Oil?

If you are not allergic to palmarosa (they are a related plant,) this could be used.
If you want you could email me and let me know if its that whole family of grasses you are allergic to, or not and then I can give a better substitute. 🙂

Hi Cat. I have seen other recipes for van van oil being mainly almond carrier oil with lemongrasss added. Yours is pure lemongrass. Will this not prove to be too pure and concentrated an oil to put on your own skin? Wont it cause irritation? Let me know what you think.
    Thanks for that

No, lemongrass isn’t very corrosive or irritating to the skin.
