Cat’s Rants: Confessions of an Occult Mastermind

Everything you ever wanted to know about Hoodoo, Rootwork, or the Occult! The internet’s longest running occult blog, established 2004

  • Hi there, Occultey friends!

Today I’m bringing you another edition of everyone’s favorite type of article, Questions You’ve Asked Me. Here I answer the good, the bad, and the weird questions I’ve been asked. I hope you find this enlightening or at the very least amusing. πŸ˜‰

Q: What is your spell advice for someone involved with a married wo/man (when I am not the spouse of this person)?

A: I would first recommend you never involve yourself with a married or romantically-paired person, next I’d remind you that any wo/man who will cheat on their spouse to be with you, will cheat on you, and lastly, its not spell advice, but I’d recommend you start dating someone new – someone who IS NOT someone’s spouse next time.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people see nothing wrong in dating a married or attatched person, and then are surprised when the married/attatched person cheats on them as well! πŸ˜›

If you haven’t noticed, I don’t plan to help you tear apart a marriage. πŸ™‚ You might also take a gander at this article, which is very very very right about cheaters. πŸ™‚

Listen, I understand the urge to look, or even think – HELL, even to fantasize about the unavailable people, but do you really want to be with someone who would cheat on a person they vowed in front of God and all their loved ones to love above all others and to never cheat on? I didn’t think so.

Q: What herbs are good for increasing psychic power, and what color/s are used with candles for psychic spells?

A: A few herbs useful for psychiscm would be: Star Anise, Uva Ursi, Mugwort, Hops Flowers (placed in a pillow to have the scent inhaled during sleep for prophetic dreams,) Bethel Root, Celery Seed, Dandelion, Eyebright, and Calendula (this is not a full or complete list of appropriate herbs, but should help you.)

As for colors appropriate for candles to use in spells to increase psychic power, some might advise dark blue, but I’ve always felt purple is the best color choice for this particular type of spellcasting.

Q: What good book would you recommend for a beginner?

A: Right now I’m recommending Papa Jim’s Herbal Magic Workbook, by Papa Jim, and A Century of Spells, by Draja Mickaharic.

Q: Do planets other than Mercury go retrograde?

A: Yes, all planets turn retrograde at some time or another, and each has an effect on daily life.

    Needahand

Q: How can I speed up spell manifestation?

A: No one is going to like this answer, but…. By proper action. πŸ˜› Oh, boy, I sure suck, huh? If you can act in a manner helpful to the spell, not obsess about the spell, not antagonize your target or test your spell, it will manifest faster.

Q: Is meditiation helpful to spellcasting?

A: I think so! Any excercise you can do to strengthen your focus is very helpful. πŸ™‚ I find that my readers who report that they meditiate often have faster results than those readers who do not. I have long recommended the book You Are Psychic! by Pete A. Sanders as a good book for training your psychic powers, but it also includes some wonderful tips on meditation.

Hope everyone enjoyed this installment of Questions You’ve Asked Me. πŸ™‚

  • Many congrats to my sister for giving birth to a healthy boy, her second child and second son, last night/this morning. πŸ™‚ A hearty welcome goes out to my new nephew, Andrew! πŸ™‚ If you are a “friend” on my MySpace, you can have a look at him (he’s fresh from “the stork,” so I assume this will only be fun for people who love babies.)

  • Good day, my occulties!

Your high-mistress-occultey has been so absent lately, and I’m sorry. I’d much rather be gabbing with all of you. Have you missed me? Did you notice I added an FAQ in the Contact part of the nav bar? See, yours truly has gotten SO TIRED of answering the same questions (especially the last one on the FAQ,) that I said to myself, “Cat, if you don’t put an FAQ on the Rants page you’re going to have to keep answering the same effing questions, and that is just a waste of precious time.” So, I did put an FAQ on this site. Hopefully the same questions I get asked all of the frikking time will now fly at me 20% less than they had. πŸ˜‰

Anyhow, since everyone gets excited about controlling spells, lets get a controlling spell in here, eh? But, before I do, I must make….an obligatory speech. πŸ˜‰

Controlling spells are not incredibly easy for most people. The focus of intent and being able to keep your mind wholly focused on that intent is an integral part of success in any spell, but especially so in a controlling spell. If you are anxious or worried that the spell will fail, there is a good chance it will not be as effective as you’d hoped. When this is taken into consideration that the practitioner must also be a good doobie and not anxiously “think the spell to death,” this can be a difficult type of spellwork for a neophyte spellcaster to practice. However, I know several of you will try, no matter what your spellcasting level, and that’s a good thing. πŸ™‚ Practice makes perfect! πŸ™‚

Alrightey…oh, and this is not a nice spell, it is coercive, proceed with your own caution, etc. πŸ˜‰

    You will need:
Foot-track of target (dirt from where the person has stepped and left a print,)
    Licorice root powder,
    Confectioner’s sugar,
A small tin or plate (the top of a cookie tin might work, in this case, or a saucer,)
    Tobacco (cigarette or cigar)
    Purple candle
    A nail or pin,
    Commanding oil.

Gather the dirt from your intended target’s foot print, and place this in your tin or plate, and take a small amount of licorice root and sugar and mix this into the dirt from the foottrack, and exhale smoke from the tobacco on this as you do so, saying, “(Full name of target,) this sugar to sweeten you to my every word, and this licorice root to have you do as I say, (Full name of target, my wish is your command starting this moment this day, You are at my beck and my call, (first name.) My wish is your command (first name.) Every time you try to resist my command, the stronger the urge to do as I say becomes.”

Now, scratch your specific command to the target using a nail and writing in the present tense, third person, ie “John Doe hires (your name,) for the job he interviewed her for,” or whatever your purpose is up the candle (from base to wick.) Anoint your purple candle with the commanding oil using 9 strokes up (base to wick,) while visualizing your target doing what your are commanding them to do. As best as you can, place the candle into the foot track. If your candle will not remain stable, then use a candle holder and place this on top of your foot track mixture.

Light the candle, holding your hands on either side of it, smoke the tobocco and exhale as you say, “(Full name of target,) my wish is your command., You are at my beck and my call, (first name.) My wish is your command (first name.) Every time you try to resist my command, the stronger the urge to do as I say becomes.” (Herein speak to the candle as if you are telling the person what you want them to do.) “(Full name of target,) my wish is your command., You are at my beck and my call, (first name.) My wish is your command (first name.) Every time you try to resist my command, the stronger the urge to do as I say becomes. As is my will – so be it!”

Allow the candle to burn out in the mixture. When it has, take the mixture and wax leavings, and throw this into the yard of your target. Preferably over an area where they will walk. >:)

    Happy controlling!

  • Hi Occulties,

I’ve had a lot of requests for this, so enjoy!

    You will need –

A bottle which holds about 1/2 oz of oil
    Lemongrass essential oil*
Sandalwood oil (essential or fragrance, preferably RED sandalwood oil,)
    Red sandalwood chips,
    Lemongrass leaf pieces
    Quassia chips
    Gunpowder

Add a pinch of lemongrass leaves (about 3-4 pieces is fine,) a pinch of red sandalwood chips (2-4 pieces is fine again,) pinch of gunpowder, and a pinch of quassia chips (2-3 pieces,) to your bottle. Pour in about 5 drops sandalwood essential oil, or 15 drops sandalwood fragrance oil (depending on what you are using,) and then pour in lemongrass essential oil to fill the bottle. Cap tightly.

    Lightning

I usually charge my oils by envisioning energy flowing into the vial and empowering my oil, but you can also say a suitable prayer (if you prefer,) which belongs to your religion instead of sending energy into the vial if this is more comfortable for you.

I recommend allowing the oil to sit in a cool dark place for about 2 weeks and be shaken every 2-3 days before using, to get all the plant energies to enter the oil, however, it is suitable for use immediately. πŸ˜‰

*If you wish, you may substitute palmarosa essential oil for the lemongrass essential oil.

    Enjoy!

  • To my moms,

I am inspired by you in that you are far more motherly than I will likely ever be, I love you for a zillion reasons, and I don’t think the whole world has time to hear them all, I adore you for putting up with me for 30 long years, I thank you for your brilliant teaching that people who have no ass are evil (that one is surprisingly true, readers,) I treasure you because you at least have tried to understand my weird affliction of love for the occult, but mostly I love you because you are my MOM, and I would have to lack a soul to not love you more than any woman in the whole world.

Thankies for being the best mom ever!

    Loves,

    The Bubba

  • Hey Occulties,

Just wanted to give a shout out to my big brother, who was born on this day 34 years ago! πŸ˜€ Thanks for teaching me how to throw a football (or trying to, lol,) running down the aisles at Cricentis with me in the shopping trolley (did we ever get kicked out for doing that? hehe,) and of course teaching me how to ride a box down the stairs, much to Mom’s horror. Hope you had a great b-day!

    Your Littlest Sis. πŸ˜€

  • Hey Occulties,

A lot of you have asked my opinion on spell kits, so I figured I’d give it my opinion here publicly.

First and foremost, I probably have no idea of what is in your spell kit. πŸ˜‰ I have never used one, and I’m not normally privy to what people put in their spell kits. I could call the store who made it and ask, but you could, too. πŸ˜‰ So, in admitting that I have no freaking clue what someone is trying to market to you, and no idea if that person’s idea of the “one size fits all reconcilation spell,” is gonna fit your reconciliation needs, I can’t recommend any spell kit.

That being said, I can’t dismiss that it could be a perfectly wonderful kit for you to use because, again, I have no idea of the contents of said kit.

I know, how very wishy-washy of me. πŸ˜‰ BUT, I’m coming to a more exact point, so stick with me.

The answer is this: If you only plan to take an interest in spellwork for a short time, and for a singular need, then by all means, purchase a spell kit from a reputable ritual shop. You probably have no need for a half an ounce of ritual oil (the only price break I can think of is “single servings” of incense, powder, and oils,) so this is probably your most affordable option. You should keep in mind that purchasing multiple spell kits is probably going to end up costing YOU more, but if you only want to work on ONE problem, or if you are a casual magic/k user…sure, why not. Get the spell kit.

If you think you will need more than one “shot” of spellwork, or that you consider yourself not just the casual user of spellcraft, or if you are uncertain that person’s spell will suit your need – don’t get the spell kit. Its a waste of money in such cases.

And there you go – this is my opinion on spell kits, and whether or not they are worth your time.

  • Hello My Darlings,

So, there have been a multitude of requests for SUCCESS spells lately. I wanted to give you all something relatively simple you can do to help succeed in your chosen area in life, so here goes. πŸ™‚

    You will need:

A yellow-orange figural candle representive of the sex of the spell target (check out Stormsong.org for this – you can even have them HERB the candle FOR YOU!! :D)
    Bay laurel leaves,
Solomons seal root (finely cut or powdered,)
    Lemongrass,
    Allspice powder
    Crown of Success oil
A mortar and pestle (lacking this a bowl and strong spoon,)
A piece of scrap paper from a paper bag*
    A black pen
    A nail or pin
A fireproof container from a cake tin or pie plate.

*a note on the brown paper bag* I have been alterted by my international readers that brown paper bags are not ubiquitously used. πŸ˜‰ If you can’t get this type of paper, any unlined paper is fine, so long as the color of the paper (such as with construction paper,) is not entirely contradictory to the working. For example, if you are doing this spell, you could use basic regular unlined white paper, you could use the paper bag piece, OR you could even use orange, gold, green, or purple construction papers.

    Set up:
If you have ordered an herbed candle from Stormsong, you need not add additional herbs, and may skip the step of blending the herbs and adding them to the anointed candle.

Take a nail or pin and carve the initials of the target over the heart area of the figural candle. Using a few drops of Crown of Success oil, anoint the candle up (base to wick,) using seven strokes. Hold the candle in your hands for a few moments, envisioning gold, green, and purple energies flowing into the candle, until you feel the candle is “full.” If you do not feel like you can send energy, simply hold the candle in your hands for a few moments while you think of the spell target being successful in their chosen venture.

    Coinage

If you are just using a non-herbed orange figural candle, you should first place all of your herbal ingredients into your mortar and pestle (about equal parts, approx 2 teaspoons each should be more than enough) and crush them into as fine of a powder as possible. Sprinkle this herbal mixture liberally over the candle. Place into your fire proof container.

Using your black pen, write the name of the spell-target nine times, like this:
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe
    John Doe

Now turn the paper so that the names are running vertically and write the following command nine times, in the same fashion as above: “Complete success in (chosen area/field.)”

Spit into the center of the paper and fold in half once TOWARDS you. Fold in half again, TOWARDS you. Place name paper beneath your herbed and anointed candle. Be sure your candle is in a fireproof container such as a pie plate or cake tin.

Light the candle, and hold both hands on either side of the candle, focusing your energy towards it. While you speak this chant try to keep a mental image of yourself (or the spell target) excelling in the area of life you have specified.

    Say, “By this candle’s flame,
I bring success to (full name of target’s name,) name
    By this candle’s fire,
(target’s first name,)’s success rises higher and higher.
(Herein state your personal desire or the desire of your target for success. It doesn’t need to rhyme, I was just feelin’ fancy for the above few lines.)
His/her success, prosperity, and blessings grow
And multiply from minute to minute, from this moment.
This spell shall not reverse, or place upon anyone any curse,
As is my will, SO BE IT!”

Now allow the candle to burn out. When it has done so, take the name paper and either hide it in a Y in a tree (where the branches create a Y,) or even better, bury it beneath your front doorstep.

That’s all for me today kids. Stay tuned. πŸ˜‰

    Hugs,

    ~Cat

  • Hi Occulties,

I wasn’t going to publish this entry, but at the urging of several friends and readers and clients who’ve heard what this person wrote to me, I decided to do so.

Every once in awhile, I get a very special email. πŸ˜‰

Recently I got one from a lovely lady named Tineka Howell, who said:

FUCK YOU! SINCE YOU DIDN’T WANT TO HELP ME WITH COURT CASE I JUST THINK YOU’RE A SELFISH LITTLE BITCH THAT I WHAT THINK. YOU AINT SHIT AND YOU PREDICT THAT SOME GUY COMING INTO MY LIFE I DON’T DATE BLACK MEN. SO FUCK OFF SISTER. DON’T BOTHER EMAILING ME BACK.

Well, Tineka, I never predicted any man was coming into your life – I in fact would predict no man is. A gentleman had contacted me recently, and I nicely asked if that was who was now helping you with the court work that I had declined to do for you. That he is or isn’t a Black gentleman is not anything he specified to me, nor did I say that he was of African descent to you (I in fact did not say anything about his looks, character, race, religion, creed, etc, simply asked if that was who is doing the court work for you out of politeness) but I do believe he IS a person of color…though, again, I can’t say as that he’s Black or not. I don’t see any reason that he would date you, as I think he’s married, but I’m sure he really does not appreciate your hatred of the African peoples either way, and wouldn’t consent. You sure seem upset about something I’d never said or implied.

As for being selfish, interestingly enough I declined on the merit that I felt you were emotionally unstable, which is obvious, so selfish isn’t right (I’d say I’m an adept judge of character,) but bitch may be correct in that sentence. I am little, too… That much is certain…like barely over five feet.

So, as your email was entitled to me, “FUCK U TRAMP” (interesting, I don’t get around and am not a tramp,) right back at you.

So when I said “Is it (full name of person)?” I meant the worker you hired.

Also, I am not your sister. Please do not catagorize me as such.

Again, I hope everything goes really really well for your court case and your love life. You truly are a special person – and one with a superb grasp of the English language, too!

And everyone thinks I don’t get this stuff? I told you…my anti-fans are those I decline. As she was never a client, I have no need to protect the identity of the crazy (and er, most people aren’t this crazy anyhow)…and I am sick of quietly dealing with the abuse of those people I do decline to work for, and never naming names, so here I am naming one. This one took the cake though. So…Tineka, you know what, I am a super bitch for actually publishing your name, and I am NOT sorry…not at all.
