Cat’s Rants: Confessions of an Occult Mastermind

Everything you ever wanted to know about Hoodoo, Rootwork, or the Occult! The internet’s longest running occult blog, established 2004

  • Hey all,

A few of you have asked me if I would create one of these for you, consecrate it, and send it back to be worked on by you. While I'm happy to create the item, I would still have to receive certain biological concerns and so forth for it to be effective. If you can get me the hairs and the dirt, and send me an image, I will create one for you, and even mail it back with some candles for your use. It would take approximately 2-3 weeks turnover time from RECEIPT of your items. I would try to be faster, but this is a handmade item, and requires me being extra careful in shipping so as not to break the glass. πŸ˜› I would only ship them domestically.

If still interested, let me know. :)

  • Hey there my lovies,

So, as it happens, many of my readers come here to find that one spell to do that one thing so that they never need to use spellwork again. And you know what? That's OK. I'm totally fine with that. Sometimes you just need that one thing and only that one thing, and the sweet, sweet taste of victory once it is yours is all you will ever want.

Then again, maybe it's not going to be enough… There is something to be said for using spellwork to maintain a lifestyle that you would like. Sure, you're not apt to need to curse someone once a month for the rest of your life. πŸ˜‰ Heck, that's silly. And if you reconcile someone, hopefully, you're not chasing them off frequently enough to require a reconciliation spell once a month for the rest of your life. I have met people where I suspect it is possible that they might need that sort of work (heh,) but for most of us, this is not going to be likely to happen.

So, why then, would anyone use spellwork in the sense of maintaining a desired lifestyle? If you got the high-paying job, you probably aren't wanting for more pay just yet. If so and so came back to you, you probably aren't concerned about them running off any time soon.

That's perfectly sensible. Perhaps you never need to use spellwork again.

But in reality, many of us want to keep a blessing in our lives. Let's take my job, for example. If I were to do a money blessing, this would increase my income for a period of time, but as the spellwork began to fade, I would notice I was making less sales. The nature of any job which one gets paid per sale does have a natural wax and wane to it (as any small business owner will tell you,) but there is a noticeable increase in sales when one regularly does work to increase sales.

The reason is simple – if I do work to get a job, once I have gotten this job, the spell energy fades as it has accomplished it's purpose. Similarly, if I do work to reconcile a person, when they are reconciled to me, the spell energy fades as it has accomplished it's purpose. My situation does not then return to what it was (lacking that job, or lacking that person,) but my spell has done what it needs to do. This is why sometimes we only need that one spell to do that one thing. However, if I am an owner of a job, while one large (SUPER LARGE) sale might cover my income for a great long time, realistically, my income and situation is improved by a regular increase in sales over a particular duration of time. As the spell is cast, when it manifests, I begin to see a rise in these sales, and as the energy begins to fade over time, they will begin to decrease. Since, at least in my opinion, all spells have a certain life span, just doing one spell once to increase my income by increasing sales will only improve my situation for a particular time. Certainly, the increase in work and clients could improve my situation for a time longer than the life of the spell, but eventually, if I do nothing other than my best job all of the time – no advertising, no attempts to increase my revenue, – interest will begin to wane in my product or service.

To be fair, all of us will have times when we could use a blessing of some sort in our lives, despite doing our best to be our best selves. One manner of keeping the "blessings flowing" is something more than one person does already (and something a few people I know shudder at doing,) which is regular prayers of gratitude towards any patron spirit or even to the Universe. This is simple and costs nothing. When you thank the Universe/God/Spirit/s, and don't just keep asking for stuff, the response is generally quite positive. Being thankful tends to bring more to be thankful for. Another simple, easy method, is just doing regular candle work. While not everyone wants to leave a seven day vigil candle burning once a month (and as a member of the housefire club, which wasn't caused by a candle but still sucked, I do understand that,) even dressing a specifically colored tea light in the appropriate oil once per month can do wonders to maintain these blessings in your life. For example a gold candle (yellowey orange) dressed in money drawing oil can keep your finances strong, or a pink candle dressed in attraction oil can continually attract possible suitors (come to me oil is even stronger in this respect,) or perhaps dressing a purple candle with crown of success to have a blessing of success in business and in school. Burning a blue candle with peaceful home oil can keep peace and happiness within the home – this is all easily done, a tea light costs next to nothing, they come in many colors and often burn for four hours or less, so it isn't a huge fire hazard.

One should also keep in mind CLEANSING work. Yes, of course we all want the blessings, but if you regularly do not cleanse yourself and your ritual area, you may notice a build up of less-than-fortunate energies. Why? Even just feeling negative or angry can release this sort of energy. Think of it like cooking – you clean your utensils and your cookware between each use (well, perhaps not all cast iron cookware, but pretty much any other kind,) to prevent build-up of bacteria and food that might mold. And you wash yourself regularly – just adding perfumes and grooming products will not remove the filth and bacteria that will start to grow if you never wash yourself. Spiritual energy is no different. We need to wash altars and ritual tools, and even ourselves to help cleanse away residual energies that may grow to be troublesome if this chore is not carried out.

I guess this tangent (as I suppose it very well may be,) is to remind those of you that spellwork may require maintenance to retain the blessings it brings. Figure out if this is a change made-permanent by one action taking place (for example, getting a job, or getting someone back, or getting someone to make contact, or etc,) or is a situation wherein you want the blessing to keep strong (for example a constant higher level of sales, or a more peaceful home, etc.) to ensure you are getting the most out of your magic. If you merely need one event to happen once, you will probably not require maintenance spellwork, but if you require long-term blessings to maintain the desired state, you will need maintenance spellwork. Hope that has been enlightening.

  • Hey Occulties,

This spell would be useful for a nasty coworker, a nasty neighbor, or a loved one who is just being a jerk. πŸ˜‰ I would not refer to this as a reconciliation spell (you might find it a bit mild if you need a full blown reconciliation,) but it does really help when dealing with a person with a less than kind disposition towards you.

Also, it's pretty damn easy to get the ingredients and do this at home. πŸ™‚

This is similar to a sweet jar, but requires no candles, incense, or even anything too fancy. πŸ™‚

    You will need:
    An image of the target
A mirrored-compact that you have not looked into
    Sugar
    A pen with blue ink
Strong tape (I prefer blue or green electrical tape)

On the image of the target, use your pen to write the following on the face of the image (that is, the side the image is printed on, not on the back of it,): "(Name of Target,) that which you say about me, reflects upon thee. I surround you with sweetness, and speak sweetly of me, and others think sweetly of thee. Whatsoever you say about me, its intention reflects on thee."

Fill the compact with sugar on the side that either lacks a mirror (if a single mirror compact,) or on one side. Gently place the image of your target with the face of the image facing a mirror into the compact and close it. Envision your target acting sweet and kind towards you. Wrap the compact (usually starting where the hinge is, to prevent spillage of the sugar,) in the tape using a clockwise motion, while saying: "Name of target, "Speak sweetly of me, and others think sweetly of thee, – whatsoever you say about me, its intention reflects on thee" seven times, keeping the mental image of your target being kind and sweet towards you. You will probably have said the chant seven times before you finish wrapping the compact, this is fine. πŸ˜‰ Just try to keep the mental image of your target being kind and sweet towards you until you are done wrapping the item. Now once a day (for a total of seven days, the first day being when you wrapped the item,) hold the item in your hand while focusing on your target, and say the chant seven times.

On the seventh day, bury or hide this near a place that your target needs to pass by frequently. They should become kinder and more sweet towards you. When they speak ill of you (which this also discourages,) others will negatively judge them, and not you. πŸ™‚

    Happy Spellcasting!

  • Hey there, Occulties,

So, I'm sure I've written this article before (almost 15 years of blogging means I most likely have, haha,) but seeing as there are actually people out there who believe the customer is always right (which, no, they aren't,) some of these might enlighten you to what people in my profession deal with. πŸ˜‰ While MOST of these are mine, a few are stories I had from friends, and I can only say I am taking their word for it that this actually happened. I've made sure not to put any names or identifying info in the article. I would stress that 99.9% of the people I have worked for over the years are wonderful, kind, patient people, and don't have odd requests or act anything like these people did.

    BIOLOGICAL REMAINS–
While I'm sure it surprises no one, here and there, people can offer a bit of a target's DNA to work on, and while I accept certain items, for obvious health reasons, I could not and would not accept others.

When I was starting out, I woman contacted me and asked if I could assist in a pretty basic reconciliation case. After a day or two of emailing back and forth, she says do I accept biological items, and I of course said, it's possible, but not always, just tell me what she has. She goes on to tell me that she has a jar of the target's pee. I tell her I can't accept a jar of urine and that I am not even certain that the US Postal Service allows someone to mail urine if I could. I didn't want to embarrass her, so I was polite and to the point and basically said just that. Not to be denied, she spent the next 2-3 days trying to convince me to receive a jar of urine and how it was perfectly safe and acceptable, – which would be weird just on its own. Since I was obviously getting sick of her repeated attempts to mail me a jar of pee, I asked her "How did you get his urine, anyhow?" She immediately stopped emailing me, never replying to my question. I never heard from her again.

Some years later a young lady asked me if I could accept semen she'd collected from her target, and said the last time that they had relations, she had tied off the condom they had used, and thrown it in a sock drawer. This was almost 2 months previous that the sexual escapade had taken place to her contacting me, which she had also told me. I told her I could definitely not accept that, and that she should probably locate the item in the drawer as fast as possible and dispose of it, as it was without a doubt going to be rancid. About a day later, she contacted me to let me know that the condom had burst when she went to throw it out, and she ruined several items of clothing (or she just threw them out,) from the horrifying stink of the contents that flowed out of it into the drawer.

A male peer of mine was asked if he could use soiled drawers in a love working. Generally speaking, this means someone WORE the underpants and they have not been washed. Expecting this is what the person meant, he said sure this is fine. About a week later he gets the package and opens it up. Whoever's target this was had apparently had a massive shart in these underpants, and to call them soiled was an understatement. Someone shit their pants, the client collected the shitty underpants, and mailed this to him in a plastic zip bag. Apparently when he opened the bag (because they were folded just right to hide the big brown marks,) he had to throw up from the smell.

    ANTI-FANS–
Many many years ago I had someone came to me who was in love with a target who was obviously gay and could not return her affections. Unfortunately, their culture was such that it was very taboo to be gay, (and it was literally almost 15 years ago so all cultures were less-accepting at the time), that the gentleman in question was not going to outright come out of the closet, at least at this time. In the interest of discretion, let's just say if I outlined everything about this gentleman, including bits and blotches of his personal life, no one would question it. She, however, was convinced that he was just very naive and shy around women, and nothing I could say could move her on this point. So I said, "Let's do a reading." I do a reading, and surprise, surprise, the guy is showing up as a man who is romantically and sexually interested in men. She tells me I'm full of shit. If you think that this was a day or two of my life, for 3 weeks (most of it unpaid,) for hours a day, I am dealing with a person trying to get me to do a love spell on a guy who will never return her affections and my refusing to do this work – this is one of the very reasons keeping me in a long consultation costs money now, if you're curious, – so finally, stupid me being still in my 20's out of frustration, I say "Hey, he's gay, but if you want me to try, I give it like a 2% chance of ever happening, but I will try, but only if you promise me that when it doesn't work, that I did nothing wrong and warned you it wouldn't work." She sends me like 15 emails assuring me that is all she asks, that I try, and if it doesn't work, she will give up. I had a bad feeling about it but I did the work, and of course he became friendlier in a platonic sense, but no chemistry could be between them and the romance never came to be. But wait on that, because there is more, – so meanwhile, she contracts me to do a job spell for her to get a receptionist job at a doctor's office. I say "Would you like me to do this so it is 'this job or something better,' meaning if there is a better-paying job that is a better fit for her, that a different job would come to her, and she of course says yes to it and I do the work. Within 10 days she gets a job as a secretary for a car dealership that pays almost twice as much as the doctor-office job, and is closer to her home. So, meanwhile the love working is not working, and now perhaps 6 weeks have passed since I did the work, and the dude she is so enamored of who is, again, very gay, basically tells her it will never happen. She reacts by telling me off, and not just once, but 3-4 times a day for a week, telling me I also didn't get her a job (I had emails with her thanking me for the better job,) because it wasn't the one she asked for. But it gets better. So, perhaps 2 years later, she contacts me to tell me that my spell MADE HER TARGET GAY. I can't make people gay or straight. I told her as much from the outset. When I tell her this, and try to be pleasant, she goes on to start a yahoo email group about what a bitch I am, where they literally found my eBay account, and were discussing things I bought which were visible in the reviews. I was ignorant to this for a time, because I guess I naively believed that people don't do things that creepy, but within a short time of her starting this group, a member of her group contacts me and says "Well, you can't be a real spellcaster because it's obvious that you use the profits to buy yourself things on eBay, like a pair of winter boots, and a brassiere, and stuff." I replied saying that like most people, that I DID use the profits of my earnings to purchase necessities, and pay bills, which is what most people do with the profits from their business. When I explained this, and didn't deny that, yes, I do use the profits of my earnings to pay for things I need, and that it was creepy and stalkerish that all of them were watching my eBay account to see what I would buy (again, all needed items, as eBay was a lot more like Amazon at the time,) but that I was not ashamed to use my earnings as I saw fit, he immediately relented, seeing the error of his ways, and apologized to me. Like it never occurred to him that I have needs outside of spellcasting supplies or something. Apparently the group fell apart a few weeks later, or an ex member told me, and she was also ashamed. But it doesn't end there. This woman then went on to contact another occultist I personally knew at the time, and ask him to do a death spell on me. When his wife answered, she apparently put the phone on speaker and muted their side, and they were almost dying laughing because she claimed I made her beloved gay (which they both knew was impossible,) got her a better paying job at an auto dealership than the doctor office job she wanted, and ruined her group about me by telling people it was OK for me to spend my earnings on bills and things I needed for myself which her group members agreed and she was embarrassed by this, so I had to die. Like she never denied that I was actually right at any time, and this entire conversation was an hour out of his day, where basically someone was telling him how nuts they were and I should die for being right. Needless to say, he didn't accept any money to do a death curse on me, but he and his wife thanked me for the free entertainment.

Around the same time, a woman contacted me with some basic questions about a particular type of spellwork. Since it wasn't my specialty, I referred her to a peer, and since no work was contracted, I forgot all about it. She apparently contacted him, asked a few questions, and didn't make a purchase, so he also forgot all about it. 3 months later, she writes under a pseudonym (but using the same email) about how she was a real practitioner of (name of spellcraft,) and that the spirits were going to come for me. She wrote him the same thing, and hilariously, we were on the phone discussing a matter entirely outside of spells and the occult when we both receive these emails so we both were like "huh?" He scans his email and finds her original questions, and says, "Oh, this is (client name,) but she changed the name on the email." We both realize neither of us had been hired by this person who is sending long fantasies about being the Queen of (name of spellcraft,) which he specializes in. He replies asking her a few basic questions that one would have to answer or not be part of this religion basically, because it's necessary to tell someone that info, as well as a few basic questions on practice, all of which she could not answer. Meanwhile, I did a reverse search on the email and mailed her the info to her home address, saying if she's so powerful, can her spirits do the same to give me my address. After about a half an hour, she capitulates, says she made the whole thing up about being a Master of (name of spellcraft,) but had thought about it for 3 months and decided HE is wrong for asking for money for a reading (which she never bought,) and thought to teach us a lesson. Mind you, my entire involvement up to this was "Oh, you're interested in (name of spellcraft)? That's not my area of expertise, but I can refer you to a peer who is a priest in that paradigm."

"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT THAT I DID THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU TOLD ME TO!"–
Many years ago, against my better judgement, I took on a case where the person involved was obviously dealing with an ex that they had chased off pretty badly. While I had a bad feeling about it (which, I'm stupid to not trust my own intuition, as I get paid to use it,) she seemed so nice and sincere, and said she'd long since calmed down, and was not up to those antics anymore. So I said "Look, if I take this on, you can't call (target's name,) can't contact him, you can't show up where he works, you can't be driving by his home or anything like that, agreed?" Of course, she says she would not think of it, and that I am so right, it would be counter-productive to do such a thing. She practically swore on the Bible that she would not contact this guy, and would leave him alone. Then I tell her, "OK, but you really did give him a scare, so this isn't really a prime case to take on. I give it only a 50% chance at best of working." She says, OK, that is FINE, because that is the best she's heard all day. I do the work, and maybe 10 days later, miracle upon miracles, the guy contacts her, and says what a lot of reconciliation targets who have been terrified by a client say on a first contact…that he's sorry things got so bad but he's not ready for a romantic reconciliation just yet. He's thought about it and would like it if he knew they were at least on friendly terms but it's not an invitation to get back together. She contacts me, rather put out, and I explain this is the first step and it is good news, actually. That she should continue to be calm and cool and collected, and reply that she is happy that he wants to be friends. Instead of taking my advice, she calls him for the next week, several times a day, crying and threatening self-harm if he won't just consider coming back until he calls the police. She also drove by his house several times. She also walked up to his door and pounded on it several times until he appeared. Needless to say, the reconciliation didn't happen because she fucking terrified the guy by acting crazy. Sadly, this does happen where people lose control but this was one of perhaps 10 instances where someone went completely batshit to this level. Finally, she tells me well, I tried my hardest, but it didn't gel for her, and she's not going to hold it against me. OK, great. About 2-3 years later, she writes me a threatening sounding email where she says she's started a site all about people who failed her, and I am one of the people mentioned. I very calmly said "I didn't fail you, – you did the exact opposite of what I told you to do, and I have an email right here with you saying that the reason he wouldn't come back to you is that you flipped out, and that he wasn't even on speaking terms with you before I did any work on him, and I at least had him reaching out before you destroyed the whole working with your behavior." She agrees that she ruined everything, but says she doesn't care and I'm a bitch for even trying to help her. Then she immediately blocked me and I never heard from her again.

Someone had asked me for a particular working to increase business, and when I'd given them instruction (I didn't even do the work, I literally helped them do this for free,) the person went and purchased the items, and thanked me for help. About a month later they said "Well, I don't think it worked, because business is still lagging." I must have been having one of those months where I can crochet an entire blanket because it's quiet, because I went through everything step by step, and the person admits they did not do the one step I told them was really hugely important. So they claim they will try again, and start with performing this hugely-important step, and 2 months later, tell me the business went belly up. I asked them if they ever performed that one hugely-important step, that I'd stressed was necessary, and this person says, "No, but realize that it is your fault for giving me bad instructions and that step doesn't matter." I literally had said nothing else was apt to work until that one part was performed, but I am "At fault" because they were too lazy to do it. πŸ˜‰

While I could tell many, many, many, many other horror stories, people always ask, so I figured these would be educational. πŸ˜‰

  • Hey kids,

So, a shout out to the King of the West, the Mighty King Paimon. May all hail Paimon, she who has been so helpful to me and a good friend to me. There are not enough praises in the English language to do her justice.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, King Paimon. πŸ™‚

  • Hey there Occulties,

So, in keeping with what I was saying yesterday, – the greatest tool in any spell is the person casting that spell, – I'd like to expand on that. We've all heard "practice makes perfect," and if there is one thing I see in today's society with growing frequency is this idea that if a skill doesn't rapidly develop, if the desired outcome doesn't arrive in hours, that this "sucks." No one wants to practice anything. That takes time. :/ Of course, one needs to practice to get better, but if instant results aren't coming, all too often, people give up easily. All too often, having to make an effort, or having patience is seen as the ultimate sucky thing.

It does suck. I mean, I hate waiting, too. So in the sense that "waiting for things sucks," yes, it does.

And it is kind of sucky if you have to actually put in a lot of effort to get a desired result…which is why there are so many people who don't work out and are out of shape. Working out – at least in my opinion, – isn't an enjoyable thing. The endorphins are pretty cool, but I'll be honest, I also like sitting on my couch and eating something chock full of carbs and being lazy. πŸ˜‰ However, if I never get activity or exercise, I sure won't like my body. If you're over a certain age, you need to work out to have the desired body.

Magic is a lot like that. If you spellcast regularly, like a muscle gets stronger from frequent use, so does your ability to cast spells grow stronger. If you do not spellcast except on the odd occasion here and there, that "muscle" gets weak. One way to keep this "Magic muscle" (which sounds like a porn title, haha,) strong without spellcasting every day is prayer and/or meditation. I am not suggesting you go from EXTREME ATHEIST to EXTREME RELIGIOUS ZEALOT with the prayer…if it feels forced or false, this would not be helpful. If you are uncomfortable with the standard idea of prayer, this might even be off putting. Furthermore, I do not expect you to be able to meditate like a master yogi every day. πŸ˜‰ Instead, you could even focus on a planet which represents a sphere of influence you would like more growth in. For example, if you were looking to increase attractiveness and romance in your life, you might, every Friday, spend one hour or so (heck, even 20 minutes) where you light a pink or green candle, and say a brief thank you to Venus and ask for her blessing, and meditate on her energies. If you wanted to increase success and influence, you might pick some time every Thursday and thank Jupiter, ask for his blessing, and meditate on his energies.

This isn't limited to "planetary influences." Many people who work with saints and spirits speak to these beings daily. Many people say a prayer upon waking and on going to sleep – even before they eat meals.

The idea is to have some quiet, contemplative time where you focus, and to habitually (so at least once a week) engage in this focused, meditative thinking. That's all you need to do. This will improve your results when you spellcast a great deal, as well as it can definitely even out some of the anxiety and obsessive energies people build up when sick with lust for results.

Frequent spellcasting may not be feasible for everyone, – pets, spouses/partners, children can get in the way of that practice, – but I think most of us can find even 30 minutes a week for meditative thought.

When you start habitually focusing your mind, you will start finding your work manifesting more frequently and powerfully, which is the aim of most people reading my blog.

The best tool any magician has is him/herself, and if it isn't (because some people buy a $5000 pure gold seal for a spirit, and then never learn spellcraft,) then your results may not be what you are looking for.

Hope that is some help! πŸ™‚

  • Hey Occulties,

While it's still a few weeks off until I start, I'm going to be giving my publisher a manuscript relatively soon, so another book is a-coming. πŸ™‚ Basically, I just need to get my (brand new) laptop fixed. Yes, I'm apparently somehow mystically incapable of treating anything with a touch screen well for any period longer than maybe three weeks…which is probably why I know the guy at the mall who fixes phone screens by his first name. πŸ˜‰ I have, at this date, killed something like 5 phone screens and a computer screen within a little over a year, lmao. πŸ˜‰ This is, of course, partially my mistake for breaking my vow to never ever again have a brand new computer after the year I broke 3 computers. πŸ˜‰ That said, I really enjoyed my new laptop when the screen wasn't cracked, so I'm kind of glad I broke the "no new computers ever ever ever" vow, excepting that it's been expensive….when normally I spend $200-$300 on used ones and don't care if they stink. Now I'm spending that to FIX a computer. So…yeah… :)

It doesn't help that I've realized I'm turning into my parents, and slowly but surely, that new-fangled technology is apparently too much for me. After some complaining from a few people (and not those who are the type to complain) I came to realize that while writing replies, I didn't send several of them. Now, I have worked through email for a decade and a half, and was competently using it well before said time, so this is surprising to me, but apparently I didn't understand some button on a new platform I'm sending mail through, and I didn't send stuff. Let me be a bit self-deprecating here….admitting that is like admitting that I forgot how to tie my shoes, as it is THAT elementary to me. Imagine waking up one day and realizing that you aren't, say….using your new microwave right, and that's how I feel saying "I hit this wrong button because it looked like send but it wasn't send, and there is another button here that says send, and that one is the only send button, but the graphic confused me."

But anyhow, enough about me, – let's get on to today's topic. :)

When it comes to my readers, it seems among those very new to magic that there is a common misconception that just owning some really awesome and expensive tools and/or having fantastic formulas is going to somehow make them adept at spellcasting.

    BULLSHIT.

If I own the world's most expensive car, it does not make me a better driver. If I own the best computer, it does not make me a technical wizard. Were I to purchase the best and most expensive builder's tools, I am not suddenly gifted with becoming a great builder. I mean, I have too often seen people thinking that if they should buy a wand, they can wave it around and grant wishes….which is not even the purpose of a wand in spellcasting. While rootwork does not generally utilize that tool, similarly, just having some really kickass Love Me oil and dabbing it on yourself with absolutely no intention will not suddenly turn you into an irresistible love target for all around you.

This is not to downplay having really well made tools, which DO help make for a better result. In fact a real effort being put into crafting great tools (and/or purchasing well crafted tools) does pay off and create a better result. Buying (assuming you cannot handcraft) real ritual oils which are made with non-synthetic ingredients will noticeably (if not greatly) increase your results.

That said, if I wave a hammer around, it will not build a house, and if I wave a wand around, it won't grant wishes. ;)

What I am trying to say is that one must understand what each tool is for.

One of my favorite things about rootwork is that it is not nearly as "stuffy and pretentious" (in my humble opinion) as, say, Solomonic conjuring. Instead of worrying that I do not have this or that seal inscribed on copper or silver and made in the right day, I am instead more concerned that I have a sturdy mortar and pestle. πŸ˜‰ If I only use this sturdy mortar and pestle for my spellwork, if I cleanse them ritually and bless them after each use, then this mortar and pestle will become a magical tool, – which is to say they can impart power to my workings. However, the fact that I purchased said mortar and pestle from a site which sells cookware will not take away from the ability of the item.

So, no matter how well crafted, even items made under perfect ritual conditions, are tools. Without someone adept wielding these tools, without proper use and proper care, they are merely fancy tools.

And the greatest tool any magician has is him or herself. Magic is a skill…the more you practice this skill, the stronger your ability to create the desired outcomes through spellwork becomes. If you practice frequently, you will find that you can even use some poorly made tools and have more success than a neophyte using the expensive and fancy tools in their spellcasting…just like an adept builder could use rather cheaply made building tools and build better than a person who can barely nail two boards together will do using the fanciest tools around.

One of the reasons I like candle magic so very much is that it is easily accessible to people newer to spellcraft, and helps someone focus their energies with a relatively inexpensive amount of ingredients – it is, in my opinion, the simplest way to begin learning magic. Rather than wondering why you paid $300 for an exquisitely made wand and are still getting meh results, you are more like to find yourself paying $10 or so per each spell, and not being too disappointed if your first attempts do not pan out as hoped.

Again, this is not to downplay the benefit of fine materials and tools – they DO help with the result, – but just possessing them will not guarantee success.

Hope that clarifies some stuff for my readers.

    ~Cat

PS- Since people always ask….a wand is a bit like an athame, which is to say it is to direct power or send power from the magician. It is a bit like a "Laser pointer" in some respects and a bit like…think of it a little like something that sends energy from the magician in a stream. Just waving it around and wishing is not how it is used. ;)

  • Hey Occulties!

Everyone always needs more money, so I'm sure this will be well received. While there are a few ways to change this spell a bit if you feel that it does not match what you can do (and these are mentioned within the text), please remember the substitution for ingredient or action in any spell on my blog is to find a spell where you can perform all of the actions to and have all the ingredients to.

    You will need:
A small bottle with lid (a round, 1/2 oz or 1 oz bottle would be perfect for this,)
    Red sandalwood powder or chips
    Irish moss flakes (carrageen)
    Bay leaves
A piece of paper money (any denomination, preferably from the country you currently live in)
A permanent marker with GOLD or ORANGE ink
    Weather-resistant string or wire

Because of the rarity of real red sandalwood (people will try to pass off a fake as the tree has a lot of restrictions on it for gathering its wood at this writing, as it has been over-harvested,) if you can't get real red sandalwood, in a pinch, alkanet root will do, though it is not nearly as effective for this spell.

While the denomination of bill can be any denomination, I do recommend not using a hugely-large or even moderately-large denomination to avoid someone breaking the charm. Most people, if they saw even a $20 would be tempted to get it. πŸ˜‰ Keep in mind where the charm is placed (see below). If the location is incredibly remote, you can assume any denomination is safe. If there is a chance of enough foot traffic (even 10ish people per year,) try to use an amount that is not sorely tempting to a desperate passer-by or teenagers and children.

Place your herbal ingredients into a mortar or bowl in about equal amounts, and grind these together using a pestle or a back of a spoon. While the ingredients do not need to be powder, they should at least be relatively small grains. Place your right hand (or writing hand,) over the mortar (or bowl) and say: "Wealth and riches, shall be in (name of target)'s house and righteousness shall be in (name of target)'s house forever," five times while envisioning the target (whether that is yourself or another) surrounded by wealth and abundance. If it is easier for you to "see" energy, envision golden and purple energy flowing from the center of your hand into the mixture while saying the chant five times. Set this aside.

Write the command a total of five times on the bill, using your permanent marker. Write this first in the upper left hand corner diagonally so it goes towards the center, then the upper right-hand corner, going towards the center, in the lower right-hand corner, diagonally so it goes towards the center, and then the lower left-hand corner, again diagonally towards the center, then for the the fifth and final time in the center of the bill, and horizontally.

Place the inscribed bill within the bottle. If you need to fold it to do so, fold this TOWARDS you. Pour your herbal mixture into the bottle to fill it, sealing the item once you have done so. Hold the bottle in your right hand, and, envisioning your target surrounded by wealth and abundance (or envisioning gold and violet energy flowing into the vial,) say "And (name of target) shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his/her fruit in his season; his/her leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever s/he does shall prosper," five times.

Tie the rope or wire around the neck of the bottle. Find a tree to the EAST (where the sun rises, for the compass-impaired) of your home which is in a remote place, and tie the bottle to high branch, knotting it five times. As you tie each knot, say: Money is drawn unto (me/name of target) as bees are drawn to honey, and as the wind moves through these branches, so is money driven towards me. As is my will, so be it!" Walk away without turning back.

Money should be drawn to you.

Inevitably, someone will bemoan lack of access to a tree, and will tell me that they can't do this, and remote trees don't exist, and that there are no unsettled areas or even lands where no one is building and get all pissy. This is of course, ridiculous, and of course, regardless of where you live, within a few miles there will be a tree with a high up branch which not too many people will be near, but people are lazy jerks, so to prevent excessive complaining in my inbox, if for some reason you live in a desert (possible) where the land is entirely devoid of any trees except decorative trees on private land, place this on or near the front entrance to your home.

    Happy spellcastin!

  • Hey there Occulties,

A relatively common request (as I'm sure it would not surprise you,) is to get back at an ex or a bad friend. The following curse uses a used shoe of the target, so you probably need some close contact with this person. πŸ˜‰

    You will need:
A worn shoe from the target
9 relatively large nails (I leave this up to you, but they have to be large enough to come through the bottom of the shoe into the inside of the shoe, and be written on)
A black or red "Sharpie" or other fine-tipped permanent marker
Goofer dust (the real stuff…graveyard dirt, bugs, hot pepper, rust, etc – if it looks like talcum powder, it's not Goofer dust)
A black sack or bag (you can substitute this with a shirt or garment worn by the target, so long as it fits over the shoe)

Using your Sharpie, write what you want to happen to the target on each nail. You can choose 9 different curses, or you can make your curse very strong by repeating it 9 times, three times (3 different curses,) etc. Write the curses as so, with "John Smith" as our example target: John Smith (replace this name with your target's full name), you are restless and in pain every day for the rest of your life!

Notice I am avoiding using negatives (no, not, never,) and speaking in the present. Make all curse commands be in the present tense, and avoid the use of negatives.

Write the curses UP (base to tip) on the nail, one curse per nail.

If you're incredibly uncreative (some of us are,) just write "(Name of target,) I curse you forever!"

Take a hammer, and pound these nails through the shoe, so that the pointy end comes inside to where the foot would rest, and the base of the nail is on the bottom of the shoe. As you pound each nail in, curse your target out loud. I like to get pretty rude, call my target names, and spew on about them being miserable forever, and suggest you do the same. You're exuding dark cursing energy while you do this, and really working it up – it's helpful to the desired end.

Now throw the shoe into a black bag (sew one if you need to,) throw some goofer dust inside the bag, and tie off the top. If you're using a garment, tie all open ends off, throwing the goofer's dust in before you tie off the last opening. Throw this into a crossroads, a river, or if you're lacking either, find a public trashcan near a cross roads and toss this package within. Walk away without looking back.

Your target should be absolutely miserable unless they can locate the package and extract the nails. πŸ™‚

    Happy Hexing!

  • Hey Occulties,

I had a boatload of other articles to post but this is the theme that keeps haunting my inbox, so might as well get through with this first. πŸ˜‰

For starters, I'm not judging….I've definitely had my own "Cat can't let go" moments just like the rest of you have. When something is important, or making you anxious, it's difficult to release the situation from your thoughts, and I get how difficult. However, as we've been over in here before, that's not at all helpful to a spell manifesting – that is, in fact, the dreaded "thinking a spell to death"/lust for results which I constantly advise against.

Furthermore, when you're living the situation (and keep in mind, I have clients and readers who are dealing with divorce, with theft, with ex girlfriends or boyfriends of their intended who threaten them, etc, at any given time,) it can be hard to see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, even if you really need to in order for your spell to manifest strongly. As much as you do not want me to say this to you (again, been there, heard it, was opposed to hearing it because I was too caught up, and had spell failure for it,) you first need to remember to exercise self-control. If someone is threatening you, then you need to probably go to the police. Admittedly, not all problems require this, but if someone is saying they will harm you, your family, or your friends, you need to go to the authorities if you believe that they are being serious. But regardless of if you DO or DO NOT call the police, you still need to avoid taking the bait to argue or engage with this person – they are baiting you for you to react. The best thing that you can do is to be calm, aloof, and relatively non-reactive. They WANT YOU to react poorly so that they can "give you enough rope to hang yourself," which is an idiom meaning they want you to act out or act negatively in an effort to show to themselves or others that you are mentally deficient. DO NOT take the bait. Instead, even if, secretly, you're ready to rip your own arm off and beat someone to death with it, act unfazed. Act as if you don't care. If you take the proverbial bait, you are lengthening your own wait time for manifestation AND feeding someone who is opposing you the energy to keep you away from what you want.

I know it IS NOT easy, – but if someone wants you to get upset, angry, sad, clingy, offended, etc, merely act aloof. Go pound on the walls and scream into a pillow when it's over. It pays off to do this. πŸ˜‰

Next, avoid pressing your "agenda" in any overt way. If you want so and so to return your affections, don't turn on the flirtation heavily. If you want so and so to pay that past due bill, if it's a delicate situation, don't hint on that heavily. Watch your target for clues like a hunter tracks prey. A hunter doesn't run into the forest screaming "come over here, deer, so I can shoot you and eat you," and throw leaves and sticks all over until he's tired himself out. He or she waits, and observes, and silently waits more. Maybe he or she uses something to make a call the prey would respond to. You need to be the same way.

And act WITH YOUR GOAL, and not against it. While some of this is painfully obvious (like don't fight with a reconciliation target,) some might be less so. Don't fight with a curse target or bad mouth them (it attaches you to their downfall.) Don't argue with a rival for love. Don't overdo contact about a job (desperation and anxiety pushes off the people doing the hiring,) don't over-apologize or explain to a reconciliation target (it's off putting,) don't throw yourself at a love drawing target (again, desperation is the world's worst cologne) – all of these are things which might be less obvious to a neophyte in regards to manifestation. You need to act in concert with your spell, not against it. Magic is no safeguard against bad behavior.

But what do you do when outwardly, at least, you're acting with your spellwork, but inwardly you're so wrapped up and obsessed with the situation that it's causing you to (possibly) privately act out, and your personal time is consumed with thoughts of the situation and those involved?

While I've said it at least 2x a year for a few years (heh,) TRY TO LET IT GO. Keep your mind active, keep yourself involved in tasks that require concentration and active thought. I realize this is easier said than done, but avoiding "no-mind" tasks like watching TV or doing repetitive non-thinking chores (sweeping, washing dishes) can exacerbate the problem. Obviously, cleaning is part of life, and probably can't be avoided, so try calling a friend while you do these chores, and asking about their life. That might distract you some. When you have free time, concentrate on fixing a friend's problems or on work. Do your best to keep your mind engaged in other tasks.

Still, sometimes this is not enough to get some people to stop obsessing. The next step is to shut off your social media. Now, most of these sites allow you to put this on a vacation mode or shut it down. So do that. Delete the app from your phone. Take some time off from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram or whatever. DO NOT reload it. You do not need it to live. See how freeing a week away is. This will help you from checking for updates from an ex or involved party (almost always misleading) and help relieve you of obsession.

And yet still this might not be enough. If you find yourself worrying on the situation, remind yourself that overthinking has never ever ever ever solved anything, but HAS PROBABLY CAUSED SOME MAJOR HEART ATTACKS. 99.9999% of problems are something you can deal with tomorrow or next week. They won't go anywhere and they won't get worse. I'm not saying don't pay your mortgage, but if Sally Lou or Bobby Ralph ain't replying to your texts, a week of not thinking about it is not apt to worsen the issue or even complicate it more (it may actually help.)

My best advice is always to live in the present, and not stress about the past or the future. We all need to take certain steps to maintain our way of life or have some protection against being homeless or living in a roach-infested mess, so you do need to pay bills and save some money and clean, but you also need to do your best to live your life where you're focusing on NOW not on what might be or what might have been. Staying actively involved in interests which do not have a connection to your spellwork is recommended, but if you're, for example, trying to get a better job, then sending out applications EVERYWHERE is also something which might help (in other words, don't focus on that ONE SINGLE JOB YOU THINK YOU MUST MUST MUST HAVE.) I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's up to you to not only let go of the situation you're working on, but making sure that you have several routes for the work to manifest is also helpful.

It might surprise you, but when I was working on an ex some time ago, around the same time, I found myself overwhelmed with other obligations which would preclude me running into this guy. When I just focused on these obligations, suddenly all of these strange opportunities where I had to have contact with this person kept popping up – a mutual friend found themselves in trouble, I was told to pass a message to him through another friend who had lost touch, we even literally bumped into each other three or four times which has happened basically never ever in all the years before then. I had more success having contact with this person when I was focused on life and situations outside of him or the spellwork than I did if I did not focus on those things.

Sometimes the key to "letting go" of the situation is just not thinking about it and focusing on other aspects of your life. Getting results when you're obsessed with a situation will take a lot longer than if you release your obsession with the situation, so you owe it to yourself to stop overthinking and let that spell manifest.

I hope that made some sense and was helpful. πŸ™‚
